11.04 Discovery Park
If there ever was a time to prove my powers over the weather, this was it. We perfectly time a 3.5 hour window with downpours on either side by just minutes.
As I drove into town the rain got steadily heavier and the clouds darker. Just before entering the Hwy 99 tunnel the ominous clouds enveloped the city. I saw a huge bolt of lightning and heard the rolling thunder over my radio with the windows closed. I departed the tunnel and immediately put the wipers to full speed. Near the APDA offices on Nickerson in what can only be called a torrential deluge I pulled over and sent the RSVPs a text to stay in their cars at the trailhead.
But just as I drove up through completely flooded intersections and up the last hill to the parking lot the clouds parted, and bits of blue sky poked out. The 10 attendees did a 3-mile loop walk, soaking up the colors of fall, views of the Puget Sound and energy of the woods. Rejuvenating our souls, with new friends and old ones. While the wind whisked away the sweat from our overly dressed bodies.
We made dopamine for 1.5 hours and got back to the cars completely dry! Lunch on Queen Anne Hill at The Bounty Kitchen was good. We met up with a couple others and as usual hung out socializing long after we finished our meals. The restaurant was very busy, and my Moroccan Chickpea Salad was delicious. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a place in line with a healthy PD diet.
A small group of us migrated to the outside tables and continued our conversations until a sprinkling of rain reminded us how lucky we had been. Quick hugs and promises to see each other soon ensued before we hurried back to our cars and another of the day's downpours got started.
